July 16 / Outcry / Ephesians 2:1-10 / By grace you have been saved…
Ephesians 2:1-10Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
From Death to Life
2 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins 2 in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler who exercises authority over the lower heavens, the spirit now working in the disobedient. 3 We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us, 5 made us alive with the Messiah even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! 6 Together with Christ Jesus He also raised us up and seated us in the heavens, 7 so that in the coming ages He might display the immeasurable riches of His grace through His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— 9 not from works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.
God gives us new life when we place our faith in Him!

July 10 / Reason Together / Obadiah 20 / A God of the Refugee
The exiles of the Israelites who are in Halah
and who are among the Canaanites as far as Zarephath
as well as the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
will possess the cities of the Negev.
God has consistently shown a concern for those who were outcast, and this should inform how we approach similar situations today.

July 9 / Outcry / Romans 3:21-26 / For all have sinned…
21 But now, apart from the law, God’s righteousness has been revealed—attested by the Law and the Prophets 22 —that is, God’s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe, since there is no distinction. 23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.24 They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Him as a propitiation through faith in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His restraint God passed over the sins previously committed. 26 God presented Him to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be righteous and declare righteous the one who has faith in Jesus.
Everyone needs Jesus the same amount, and everyone gets saved the same way.

July 3 (Independence Day Weekend) / Reason Together / Obadiah 19 / A God Who Restores
People from the Negev will possess
the hill country of Esau;
those from the Judean foothills will possess
the land of the Philistines.
They will possess
the territories of Ephraim and Samaria,
while Benjamin will possess Gilead.
While we may need to be careful in appropriating specific Scriptures or promises for our personal lives, it is in God's nature and character to restore, and we can expect that what He doesn't restore He will surpass.

July 2 (Independence Day Weekend) / Outcry / Matthew 28:16-20 / Go and make disciples…
Matthew 28:16-20Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
The Great Commission
16 The 11 disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped, but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
When you follow Jesus, you can help other people follow Jesus.
1. Who gives you the right to make disciples? Jesus does!
2. Believers become belongers!
3. Trust and obey!
4. You are never alone!

June 26 / Reason Together / Obadiah 17-18 / A God who Remembers His People
But there will be a deliverance on Mount Zion,
and it will be holy;
the house of Jacob will dispossess
those who dispossessed them.
18 Then the house of Jacob will be a blazing fire,
and the house of Joseph, a burning flame,
but the house of Esau will be stubble;
Jacob will set them on fire and consume Edom.
Therefore no survivor will remain
of the house of Esau,
for the Lord has spoken.
HE HAS NOT FORGOTTEN YOU!!!
Worship Leader: Allison Slocum
1. God uses covenant names five times in these two verses.
2. The Scriptures are full of promises and examples of remembering
A. His covenant
B. His people
3. The sending of the Messiah is the ultimate remembering!
Song Ideas Leslie:
God With Us (MercyMe)
He Knows My Name (the one we know)
He Knows My Name (Francesca Batistelli)

the house of Jacob will dispossess

June 19 (Father's Day) / Reason Together / Obadiah 16 / A God of Distinctions
As you have drunk on My holy mountain,
so all the nations will drink continually.
They will drink and gulp down
and be as though they had never been.
I may need to reevaluate this, but my initial direction with this verse was to say that God doesn't treat everyone the same...so that begs the question how do you get on His good side? (The answer, of course, is faith in Jesus.)
1. God punished Israel/Judah for restoration, but the opposing nations for destruction.
2. Another example of this kind of distinction is found in Exodus 8 and 9.
3. God has chosen to take a people unto Himself, and He does treat them differently.
A. They are given the law to learn God's character.
B. They are given prophets to learn God's plan.
C. They are given mercy after judgment.
4. Now God is building a spiritual kingdom.
A. The people of God are not found in one nation.
B. You can become one of God's people through Christ.
Worship Leader: Lis Hilton
One way to lead into this may be to wrestle with the issue of fairness. Is God fair? What IS fair?
Song Ideas from Leslie:
Your Grace is Enough
Inside Out
Your love oh Lord
Cornerstone
Special Music Idea:

June 18 / Outcry / John 14:1-6 / I am the way...
John 14:1-6Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
The Way to the Father
14 “Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me.2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also. 4 You know the way to where I am going.”
5 “Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where You’re going. How can we know the way?”
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Jesus is the only way to God.
I think I'll start with C. S. Lewis's Lord, liar, lunatic argument. If you are unfamiliar with this, here's a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis%27s_trilemma
1. You can only get to God through faith in Jesus.
2. You can't get to God through other religions.
3. You can't get to God through your own good works.
June 12 / Reason Together / Obadiah 15 / A God of History
For the Day of the Lord is near,
against all the nations.
As you have done, so it will be done to you;
what you deserve will return on your own head.
Even as God is over all time, He chooses to work in and through history.
Worship Leader: Allison Slocum
Call to Worship: All Who Are Thirsty, 492
Prayer Response: Give Us Clean Hands, 590 (may switch this one with the CTW)
My Response to God: Ancient of Days, 62
Worship 1: You are God Alone (this one is in that choir book)
Worship 2: We Bow Down, 31
Worship 3: All People that on Earth Do Dwell, 40
Benediction: Doxology (or vs. 5 of the hymn above)
Can we do the new doxology? It adds a bridge, and I love it. I think we've done it once, but it was a long time ago. [From Jason: I found indications we did it in Jan 2012, April 2012, and Oct 2014, at least. Kathy should have the music.] I think we learned it in Worship Kidstyle. (Wish we had drums!)
